Romney Fire victims had just moved into home

ROMNEY, W.Va. — The Romney family who lost everything in an early morning fire Tuesday had just moved into the home over the weekend, according to the Hampshire Review.

Brian Evans and his wife, Jessie, were in the process of buying the single-story Core Road log home owned by his aunt, Kathy Evans, the Romney newspaper reported Wednesday.

The couple have a 5-year-old and 18-month-old son and are in need of donations. The house and belongings are a total loss, estimated by Romney Fire Chief G.T. Parsons at $350,000.

The cause and origin of the fire are being investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s Office. Family members have said the chimney flue was smoldering, but no one was home when the fire was reported shortly before 9 a.m.

As the owner of B’s Construction, Brian Evans’ office equipment was destroyed in the fire as well.

A Brian and Jessie Evans Fire Fund has been set up at the FNB Bank, P.O. Box 54, Romney, WV 26757.

Clothing and household items can be dropped off at Romney Elementary School.

The family’s sizes include men’s large and 32-34 jeans and size 9 shoes; women’s 12 clothing and 10 shoes; boys’ 6 clothing and 13 shoes and 18 months clothing and 6 and 4 disposable diapers.
