LARGO — Aaron Brackett scored 20 points and pulled down 19 rebounds as the Allegany College of Maryland Trojans came back from a cold-shooting first half to beat host Prince George’s 66-52 in a Maryland JUCO Conference men’s basketball game on Wednesday night.
It was the Trojans’ fifth straight win and lifted their record to 14-6 overall. They remain in second place in the conference with an 8-2 mark.
Derrell Armstrong added 16 points and Marcel Chesson and Jay Burke had 12 points. Burke pulled down 11 rebounds as Allegany dominated the boards. Chesson had four assists.
Jordan Jones scored 15 points and Brandon Waters added 12 for the Owls, who fall to 3-15 overall and 1-9 in the conference.
Allegany struggled with getting shots under the basket to fall in the first half and trailed 28-24 at halftime before out-scoring the Owls 42-22 over the final 12 minutes. The Trojans took the lead for good at 35-34 about five minutes into the second half and led by as many at 18 points.
“In the first half we shot only 24 percent and when the shots aren’t falling everything else looks bad,” said Allegany coach Mike Baker. “In the second half the shots started falling and we did a better job of taking the ball to the hole.”
Allegany will host CCBC-Essex in a conference game on Saturday at 7 p.m.
