Baltimore City stays unbeaten, tops ACM

From Staff Reports

LARGO — Four Baltimore City players scored in double figures to lead the Panthers over Allegany College of Maryland 56-48 for the Maryland JUCO championship Sunday afternoon at Prince George’s Community College.

The victory keeps Baltimore undefeated at 21-0 while dropping the Trojans to 19-4. Allegany will be idle until the Region XX Tournament which begins March 4 at Frederick.

The Trojans, according to head coach Garrett Sherman, led for most of the first half until the Panthers took off to lead at the break, 41-29.

“We were in striking distance throughout most of the game,” he said. “We cut it to five with about five minutes left. But be gave up too many turnovers and allowed too many layups to retake the lead.”

Tamara Nesmith led the Trojans with 10 points. Ashleight Fossett and Kim Jones each had eight. Fossett and Dakeea Marshall were each named to the all-tournament team.

Baltimore was powered by Tanira McClirkin’s 14 points. Ciarra Lucas added 13, Ashley Jones 12 and Denisha Haywood 10.
