Garrett loses opener to Baltimore, 50-34
BALTIMORE — Chardra Lomax scored 21 points and hit three three-point goals as Baltimore City spoiled Garrett College’s season opener, beating the Lakers 50-34 in a Maryland JUCO Conference game Saturday afternoon.
Former Laker Tanika Jeffers added 10 points for the Red Devils, who led 27-14 at the half.
Brittany Boyce led Garrett with 10 points.
The defending Region XX champion Lakers have nine freshmen on this year’s roster, with four being starters.
“Even though it was one of our poorest performances, I think they learned a great deal,’’ Garrett coach Thea Garland said of her players. “I think there was a lot of first-game jitters because we’re definitely a lot better team than we showed.”
The Lakers play again Wednesday night at Potomac State.
