ACM overpowers Catonsville

From Staff Reports

CATONSVILLE — The Allegany College of Maryland Trojans opened a 10-1 lead over Catonsville, and finished by forcing 32 turnovers with its full court press in a 71-46 win Friday evening in Catonsville.

George DeGroat had a double-double by leading the Trojans in points (20) and rebounds (10), and also added six steals. Nathan Herriott added 13 points, Calvin Lee added 11 and Ryan Burts had nine points and five assists. Steven Shepp also had five assists.

Ru White got in on the action by scoring 11 points.

After taking the 10-1 lead with a heavy man-to-man strategy, ACM found itself in a little foul trouble and had to sit a few starters. That allowed Catonsville to sneak back and was trail 32-27 at halftime.

The Trojans made 3-of-5 fouls shots in a relatively clean game. Allegany committed 14 fouls, while Catonsville was charged with nine.

E. McGill was the only play to score over 10 points by finishing with 13.

The win gives Allegany a 3-1 record in the Maryland JUCO, and a 3-5 mark overall. The Trojans will return home to play the College of Southern Maryland Wednesday evening.
