FINZEL — Jessica Nicole Witt and Robert O’Dell Ackerman were united in marriage on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011. Nestled in the hills of Western Maryland, the outdoor wedding took place at Bittersweet Acres in Finzel. The double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Bernadette Ross.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steven L. Witt Jr of Short Gap, W.Va., and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald E. Wharton of Oldtown. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steven L. Witt Sr. of LaVale and the late Judith E. Creegan of Cumberland.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Ackerman of Short Gap.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a strapless mermaid-style Sophia Tolli gown made of elegant ivory satin. The gown featured beautifully hand-beaded lace appliques through the personalized sweetheart neckline and around the beaded satin empire waistband. The appliques then trailed down onto the chapel-length train. The bride carried a blossoming bouquet of fuchsia zinnias, daisies and roses with a touch of purple lisianthus and green foliage.
Kaylie Boyd of Flintstone served as maid of honor. The bridesmaids were Kayla McCullough of Bel Air; Sarah Twigg of Cresaptown; Angela Schaeffer of Fort Ashby, W.Va.; and Dr. Jamie Simpson of Pawleys Island, S.C. The junior bridesmaids were Madison Wharton, sister of the bride, and Miss McKenzie Kirby, niece of the groom. The flower girl was Miss Rylie McCullough, goddaughter of the bride. The attendants wore floor-length gowns in lipstick chiffon. Each carried bouquets of white zinnias, daises and roses. The junior bridesmaid wore floor-length gowns in clover chiffon. They carried white wooden baskets filled with fresh flower petals. The flower girl wore an ivory dress with a lipstick sash. Brooke Day, owner of Cameo Salon in Ridgeley, W.Va., provided styling and makeup services for the bride and her attendants.
Andrew Lopez of Fort Ashby, W.Va., served as the best man. Groomsmen included Marcus Haines of Cresaptown; Billy McMahan of Cumberland; Nathan Schaeffer of Fort Ashby; and Carl Whitacre of Fort Ashby. The junior groomsmen were Hunter Witt and Trevor Witt, both brothers of the bride. The ring bearer was Bailey Kirby, nephew of the groom. The groom wore a black tuxedo with an ivory vest and matching tie. The groomsmen, junior groomsmen and ring bearer all wore black tuxedos with a clover vest and matching ties.
Chris Dodrill and Porky George, both friends of the groom, served as ushers for the ceremony.
All floral arrangements were designed and provided by Yvonne Gahagan of Gahagan Family Farms in Williamsburg, Pa. Ed Geis, assistant for Moriah Kasecamp of Moriah K. Photography, provided all photography.
Bittersweet Acres, owned by Ed Geis, provided the perfect backdrop for the wedding ceremony. Soloist Don Robinson played music as the guests were seated. The groom and his groomsmen arrived to the rustic site in a friend’s pick-up truck. The bride and her attendants arrived by a horse-drawn carriage. The song “One Hand, One Heart” from West Side Story was sung and performed by Don Robinson during the sand ceremony.
The Avilton Community Center held the reception immediately following the ceremony. Guests were served a seated dinner catered by Frostburg Catering Services of Frostburg State University. A delicious three-tier cake, baked by Karla Morgan, was topped with a glass heart and decorated with fresh flowers. The tables were lined with burlap runners overtop white linens. The centerpieces were handcrafted by the bride’s grandfather. They consisted of wooden boxes filled with lush fuchsia zinnias, peach colored roses, purple lilies and green foliage surrounded by glowing mason jars. Potted trees wrapped in white lights provide a romantic setting throughout the reception venue.
Guests danced the night away to the musical styling of DJ Brian Plummer. Favors were tree seedlings from the Green World Project, each with a special thank you message from the bride and groom.
On the eve of the wedding, the groom’s parents and bride’s relatives, Mark and Laura Witt, hosted a rehearsal dinner in honor of the bride and groom.
A surprise bridal shower was thrown in honor of the bride at Giuseppe’s Italian Restaurant.
Both the bride and groom are Frankfort High School graduates, class of 2005. Jessica is employed at Saweikis Family Medicine in Keyser, W.Va. Robbie is employed with Butter Krust Baking Company in Cumberland.
The newlyweds honeymooned in the tropical Dominican Republic at the Now Larimar Resort. Robbie and Jessica now reside in their recently purchased home in Short Gap.
Robbie and Jessica would like to thank everyone that made their wedding day so amazing. A special thank you to their parents and close relatives for all the love and support they have given over the years.

A retired sergeant major of the United States Marine Corps, Shon serves as a bishop in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fredericksburg, Va.
