Gustafson, Harshbarger wedding

WESTERNPORT — Candice Leigh Harshbarger and John Philip Gustafson II were united in marriage July 16, 2011, at St. Peter’s Church in Westernport. The double ring ceremony was officiated by the Rev. James Hannon and Deacon Harold Bradley.

Readings for the ceremony were done by Tom Martin, uncle of the bride, and Becky Shook, aunt of the bride, Michael Gustafson, uncle of the groom, and Jackie Sions, aunt of the groom. Organist was Mary T. Hawkins.

Matron of honor was Amy Everett Underwood, friend of the bride. Attendants were Carrie Wilitson, friend of the bride, and Juliana Gustafson, sister of the groom. The attendants wore navy tea-length empire waist gowns from Alfred Angelo. The groom wore a black tuxedo with white accessories while the groomsmen wore black tuxedos with navy accessories.

Best man was Phil Good, friend of the groom. Groomsmen were Ben Sions, cousin of the groom, and Brett Harshbarger, brother of the bride.

The bride chose a designer gown from the Mori Lee International Collection. The dress was a deep V-neckline with straps that extended to a deep V-back. The entire bodice, straps and back of the gown were heavily beaded with tiny pearls and crystals. An empire waist of layered silk chiffon held a soft skirt that flowed to a cathedral train with more pearls and crystals. The bride wore a finger-tip veil of imported French illusion that had a jeweled edging that matched her gown. The bridal gown, veil, and tuxedos were from Lennox East in LaVale.

The flower arrangements for the church, reception, and bridal party were designed by Scott Quint, uncle of the groom, and featured peonies, roses, gerbera daisies, hydrangea, and lilies in varying hues of pink and white.

The reception dinner and dance were held at the historic Lyric Theatre in Frostburg. Catering was by Aramark, and DJ Eric Mellotte provided music for dancing. Lorenzo’s bakery in Frostburg prepared the wedding cake. Photography was by Marlene Fitzgerald of Life Images Studio in Keyser, W.Va.

The groom’s parents hosted a West Virginia themed rehearsal dinner barbecue at the Woodworth Farm catered by Flying W Farms in Burlington, W.Va.

The couple enjoyed a Disney cruise to the Bahamas for their honeymoon. They currently reside in Keyser, W.Va.

The bride is the daughter of Christa and Rick Harshbarger of Keyser and the granddaughter of Janet and John Martin of Westernport and the late Catherine and Harry Harshbarger of Piedmont, W.Va. Candice is a doctor of physical therapy and is currently employed by Valley Health Systems at Hampshire Memorial Hospital in Romney, W.Va.

John is the son of Linda and John Gustafson of Keyser  and the grandson of Jacqueline Gustafson of Keyser, the late Oscar Gustafson and the late Doris and Duane Haught. John practices veterinary medicine at Hi Rock Animal Hospital in McCoole and Romney.
