CUMBERLAND — One year ago today, on June 19, 2010, Ashley Marie Swarner and John Louis Preston were united in marriage during a double ring ceremony officiated by the Rev. Ann Atkins at Centre Street United Methodist Church.
Given in marriage by her parents, Martin and Tracy Swarner, and escorted to the altar by her father, the bride was adorned in a strapless ivory Alfred Angelo princess silhouette gown with a chapel train and sweetheart neckline. The gown was embellished with lace and light gold crystal beading. The bride carried a bouquet of sage hydrangeas and yellow roses wrapped in ivory silk and pearls, arranged by the bride herself. The bride’s ivory pearls and diamond jewelry was a gift from her parents. She also wore her grandmother's blue sapphire ring.
Serving as matron of honor was Shayna Welsh, friend of the bride. Courtney Swarner, sister of the bride, and Loretta Thomson, Leann Dayton, Jenna Wilt and Whitney Wilson, all friends of the bride, served as bridesmaids. Each wore a sage floor-length gown with ivory lace embellishments and carried yellow hydrangeas with ivory and sage roses wrapped in yellow silk and pearls, also arranged by the bride. The flower girl was Kennedy Cesnick, friend of the bride and groom.
The groom, son of Mike and Mary Beth Preston, wore a Calvin Klein tuxedo with an ivory vest, tie and pocket square.
Serving as the best man was Zack Frost, friend of the groom. The groomsmen, Mark Hawkins, Creade Brodie, Eric Raley, Johnny Wilhelm; all friends of the groom, and Michael Preston, brother of the groom, wore black tuxedos with sage vests, ties and pocket squares. The ring bearer was Sheldon Welsh, friend of the bride and groom. Ushers were Brad Deffenbaugh and Tyler Young, cousins of the bride. Alex Young and Owen Deffenbaugh, cousins of the bride, distributed programs and Nathan Young, cousin of the bride, and Madison Cesnick, friend of the bride and groom, distributed bubbles.
A reception was held at the Cumberland Outdoor Club, with catering provided by The Princess Restaurant. Music was provided by DJ Eric Mellotte. The three-tier, ivory cake with sage ribbon and yellow flowers was made by Rhonda Alderton, friend of the bride. Photography was done by Diane May.
A rehearsal dinner was hosted at The Hen House by the groom's parents.
The couple honeymooned in Cabos San Lucas, Mexico. John and Ashley currently reside in Frostburg.

The double ring ceremony took place at Centre Street United Methodist Church, which was the church of the bride’s childhood. The Rev. Ann W. Abbey Alexandra Bond and Cpl. Braxten Ray Brodie were united in marriage on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at Ridgeview Valley in McHenry. The outdoor, double ring ceremony was officiated by Shon Brodie, uncle of the groom. A retired sergeant major of the United States Marine Corps, Shon serves as a bishop in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fredericksburg, Va.
