ROCKWOOD, Pa. — Kathryn Janette Eaton and Daniel Russell Armstrong were united in marriage May 29, 2011, at The Hayloft in Rockwood. This quaint outdoor setting in the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania provided a beautiful, scenic background for the ceremony. The Rev. Brad Grinnen officiated the double ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Ms. Lisa Eaton of Waterville, Maine, and Mr. Kenneth Eaton of Oakland, Maine.
The bridegroom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Bill Armstrong of Lancaster, Va. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert M. Armstrong Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Russell L. Livengood Jr., of Cumberland, Md.
The bride was given in marriage by her parents and was escorted down the aisle by her father. Kathryn wore a strapless ivory gown with soft, cascading chiffon and organza ruffles. She wore a fingertip ivory veil with a pencil edge during the ceremony and a handmade ivory flower in her hair during the reception. The bride’s bouquet was made of large white garden roses with goldenrod and craspedia.
The groom wore a khaki suit, white shirt and navy and yellow striped tie. The groomsmen also wore khaki suits with coordinating ties.
The maid of honor and sister of the bride was Nicole Eaton. The bridesmaids, all friends of the bride, were Alexandria Wood, Shauna Welsh, Rebekah Brewer, and Emily Dick. The bridesmaids wore knee length taffeta navy dresses with a jewel neckline and a fitted waist. The bridesmaids carried coordinating bouquets with garden roses, goldenrod, daises, wildflowers and craspedia. Betty Lou Svonavec, owner of the Hayloft, handpicked and arranged the natural and rustic bouquets for the entire bridal party. Judith Oltermann, friend of the groom’s family, provided hairstyles for the bride and bridesmaids.
The best man was Bret Holbrook, friend of the groom. The groomsmen were Conrad Wineland, friend of the groom, Jeremy and Jonathan Irons, cousins of groom, and John Hussell, friend of the groom.
The flower girl was Isabella Miller, cousin of the groom. She wore an ivory satin princess-waist dress adorned with an embroidered floral organza overlay and scalloped hem. She carried a basket of yellow rose petals and her favorite doll wearing a matching dress.
Ryan Hughes, cousin of the groom, was the ring bearer. He wore a matching khaki suit, white shirt, and navy tie. He carried a handmade nest, with the rings attached, made by the bride.
Maria Bessler, longtime friend of the groom, assisted with registering guests at the reception.
Jordon Harrison, friend of the bride and groom, served as a reader at the ceremony reading both Scripture and a poetry selection chosen by the bride and groom.
The reception followed immediately in the restored, historic barn at the Hayloft. A pork barbecue, picnic-style buffet was served to guests followed by the cutting of the wedding and groom’s cakes. The exquisite cakes were made by Jennifer Merritt at Jennifer’s Desserts in Cumberland. The cake stand was made by the father of the groom from a large white oak tree and carved with the couple’s initials.
Joel Hoover coordinated the wedding events at The Hayloft. Photography was provided by Tony Urban Studio, Somerset. A local radio DJ provided music and commentary for the wedding.
Wedding guests attended from California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Washington, D.C., West Virginia and Virginia.
An engagement party was given for Kathryn and Daniel by Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Irons, close family relatives at their home in Cresaptown, Md. A bridal shower cooking class was held in Kathryn’s honor in Vassalboro, Maine, hosted by her mother, sister, and Carlette Place. Kathy Livengood, cousin of the groom, hosted a shower in her home in Ridgeley, W.Va. Jody Holbrook and Jill Bessler, longtime family friends of the groom and Sandy Armstrong, mother of the groom, hosted a bridal shower at Indian Creek Country Club. A rehearsal dinner hosted by the groom’s parents was held at the Hen House Restaurant in Frostburg, Maryland.
The bride is a 2010 graduate of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She is currently completing an additional degree in nursing.
The groom is also a 2010 graduate of Liberty University with a bachelor’s degree in pre-med biology. He is employed by the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech as a necropsy technician.
The couple will reside in southwest Virginia with their dog, Jenny.
