HAGERSTOWN — On July 9, 2011, under the pergola on the garden patio of Cortland Mansion in Hagerstown, Courtney Lynn Bennett and Robert Michael Taylor were married. These best friends became man and wife in a double ring ceremony officiated by Michael Mudge, pastor of The House of Bethany in Cumberland.

Diva DJ, Tina Hankinson, orchastrated the music for the ceremony and reception and sang throughout the evening. Steve Iser, soloist, sang “Butterfly Kisses” as the grandparents of the bride and groom entered the ceremony.

The bride was escorted into the garden by her father as the bridal march “For a Life Time” rang in the air. The bride was given in marriage by her parents, Steve and Lori Bennett, but not before the bride’s father sang a song to his daughter entitled “In My Eyes,” which he composed for this special day.

The bride wore a cathedral-length, strapless gown with a sweetheart neckline by David’s Bridal. The unique asymmetrical gown was embellished with crystals and sequins over rouged satin. Her matching tiara was perfectly complimented by her veils, a two-tier finger-tip blusher and a stunning cathedral-length vein adorned with crystals. The bride wore Swarovski crystal chandelier earrings borrowed from her mother and a matching bracelet that was a gift from her parents.

The groom wore a black one- button suit with a white damask vest and crisp white shirt from Men’s Warehouse. His only accessory was the ball and chain he now carries for the remainder of his life.

Robert and Courtney exchanged rings with the traditional vows. The bride’s sister and maid of honor, Ashlynn Bennett, read from Corinthians and the groom’s childhood friend and best man, Bryson Stewart read from Ephesians. The couple chose to have their mothers participated in the sand ceremony to represent their union. The flower girl, Jayden Taccino, wore Courtney’s First Holy Communion dress and had flowers and ribbon in her hair that coordinated with the bridal bouquets. The ring bearer was Jayce Swanger, who was all decked out in his black pinstriped suit and green shades.

The bridesmaids were Jacqueline Taylor, sister of the groom; and Jonelle Mooney, Kathryn Kudlaty, Amy Clem, Christie Lidner and Miranda Snyder, all long-time friends of the bride. The bridesmaids wore black satin cocktail-length dresses accented with a cascading ribbon and satin belt.

The groomsmen were Mark Taylor, brother of the groom; and Robert Ingle, Dexter Wallis, John Gilbert, Eric Sheldon and Matt Cooper, all friends of the groom. The groomsmen wore three-piece black suit with green vests and white shirts.

The cocktail and hor d'oeuvre dinner reception was coordinated by Chip Coblentz and catered by Chef Alex Whitlow of Celebrations Catering. The venues tables were dressed with apple green linens and white and black damask flocked table runners. The centerpieces were black tower vases filled with roses, chrysanthemum and carnations. The bride’s father designed a five-tier cupcake tower. The cupcakes were made by Lorenzo’s Bakery in Frostburg. The top tier of the tower was a New York cheese cake baked by Jennifer’s Desserts of Cumberland. There was a candy buffet with hand-crafted thank you notes for the guest favors. There also was a Wish Tree, where the guests were invited to share their wishes for the couple’s future together. Pictures of the couple thoughout their courtship were on display. The groom’s mother, Debbie Taylor, and her friend Barbara Balasak hand-crafted thank you notes for the candy bags and tags for the wish tree.

Lee Folk of David Lee Photography, Pennsylvania, was the photographer. The couple also had a Fun Photo Booth for their guests. A video of  Courtney and Robert played throughout the evening.

The rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s parents, Tom and Debbie Taylor. The sit-down dinner was held at Bare Foot Bernies in the Clarion Hotel where the wedding party and their guest stayed for the weekend.

The bridal party was transported by North Star Limo Company. The driver, Robert Thomas, drove the bridal party around Hagerstown where they had photos taken at various locations.

Guests attended the wedding from Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee, England, and North Wales, the United Kingdom.

The bride was honored with a shower hosted by Linda Stair, Ashlynn Bennett and  Amy Clem. The shower was held at the Good Fellowship Club in Cumberland.

Robert and Courtney went to Florida for a family vacation after the ceremony.

The couple purchased their first home in February. They reside at 4119 Forresthills Drive, Portsmouth, VA 23703, with their dogs, Ares and Maverick, and their kitties, Gizmo and Leena.
