Twigg, McCormick wedding

ROCKY GAP — One year ago, on July 19, 2008, Abigail Morgan McCormick and Christopher Cory Twigg were united in marriage during a double ring ceremony officiated by Father Richard Morley. The wedding took place outdoors at Rocky Gap Lodge & Golf Resort, followed by a reception at the Frostburg State University Lane Center.

Abby is the daughter of Cheryl and Morgan McCor-mick of Frostburg. She is the granddaughter of Rose and Gomer Morgan of Frostburg and the late John and Mary McCormick.

Cory is the son of Elissa and Leonard Twigg of Flintstone. He is the grandson of Mary Alice Twigg of LaVale and the late Allison Twigg and the late Susan and Joseph McGuire.

The bride was given in marriage by her parents and escorted down the aisle by her father. She wore a Casablanca bridal gown with a heavily decorated bodice and twisted off-the-shoulder satin straps. The gown had a satin organza skirt overlay that was outlined by scalloped beaded lace which continued to the back of the chapel-length train of the gown. She wore a crystal and pearl tiara and a fingertip-length veil trimmed with crystal beads made especially for her by her mother, Cheryl McCormick. The bride carried a lavender rose bouquet with six white roses in memory of family members. The bride wore two garters, a camouflage garter and a blue garter, also made for her by her mother. She wore diamond earrings, a diamond necklace, and a special family heirloom bracelet. Her hair was done by Vicky Bowman of Flintstone.

Gwen Turner, friend of the bride, served as the maid of honor. Bridesmaids included Brianna Arkins, Malinda Darber, Kasey Robb and Laura Booth, all friends of the bride. All of the girls wore Morilee two-piece orchid gowns with spaghetti straps and a cross over neckline with an asymmetrically draped midriff over a soft A-line skirt. Kylee McGuire, cousin of the groom, and Briley Shaffer, goddaughter and cousin of the bride, served as flower girls. They wore white satin dresses accented with lavender ribbons made especially for them by the bride’s mother. The girls also carried white wicker baskets filled with lavender petals.

Cory wore a black tuxedo jacket with a white vest and a white necktie. The groomsmen and ring bearer wore black tuxedo jackets with silver vests and silver neckties. Jason Twigg, brother of the groom, served as best man. Groomsmen included Justin McGuire, cousin of the groom; Ryan Martin, friend of the groom; Cody McGuire, cousin of the groom; and Chris McCormick, brother of the bride. Landen Shaffer, cousin of the bride, served as ring bearer.

The double ring ceremony was performed by Father Richard Morley, former priest of St. John’s Episcopal Church. Sharon Morgan, aunt of the bride, accompanied by Adam Morgan, cousin of the bride, played the musical selections for the ceremony. A Scripture reading was given by Sharon Davis, friend of the couple. Programs were placed on chairs by Erin McCormick, cousin of the bride, and Patti McCormick, aunt of the bride.

A buffet dinner reception immediately followed the ceremony at the Frostburg State University Lane Center. The wedding party was transported to the reception in a white limousine. The reception was coordinated and catered by Jennifer Scarborough and ARAMARK services. Upon arriving at the reception, guests were asked to sign a mat to be placed around a painting of the bride and groom painted by Lisa Twigg, mother of the groom. Inside, decorating the lavender tabletops were hurricane vases filled with lavender sand and white candles. The vases were surrounded by lavender and silver rose petals atop a mirror. The four tiered wedding cake, made by Shelby Gable of Cresaptown, was decorated with fresh flowers. Homemade dinner mints made by Patti McCormick, aunt of the bride, were placed on the cake table and dirt balls, also made by Patti McCormick, aunt of the bride, were placed on the head table. A chocolate groom’s cake was made by Patti McCormick, aunt of the bride, and was decorated to resemble the couple’s current house and property and included construction vehicles, a tree stand, and the couple’s two dogs, Cooper and Liberty.

Entertainment was provided by Disc Jockey Jim Corley. Abby and Cory danced their first dance to “When You Say Nothing At All” by Allison Kraus. Abby and her father danced to “I Loved Her First” by Heartland and Cory and his mother danced to “The Dance” by Garth Brooks. Photography at the wedding and reception was provided by Ken Nolan, friend of the couple. Martin’s Floral Department of LaVale prepared the bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages and cake topper.

The couple were guests of honor at an engagement party hosted by Gwen Turner, friend of the bride and maid of honor. The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Puccini, Cumberland, where Abby and Cory had their first date. The bride was the guest of honor at two bridal showers, one hosted by the bridal party at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Frostburg and one hosted by the Old Forge Elementary staff in Hagerstown.

Abby is a 2001 graduate of Beall High School and a 2005 and 2007 graduate of Frostburg State University, receiving her bachelor’s degree in psychology and her master’s degree in school counseling. She is currently employed with the Washington County Board of Education as an elementary school counselor.

Cory is a 1997 graduate of Mount Savage High School. He is a licensed general contractor and is the owner of Twigg Builders.

The couple honeymooned in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and currently resides in Cumberland with their two dogs, Liberty and Cooper.

Abby and Cory would like to thank their family and friends for making their wedding day special and memorable.
