ROMNEY, W.Va. — Charles Robert Herriott, 92, of Romney, died at Loving Arms Assisted Living, Front Royal, Va. on Feb. 14, 2010.
Mr. Herriott was born on Dec. 4, 1917 in Romney, son of the late Charles F. and Nannie Blue (Long) Herriott .
Mr. Herriott was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy “Dot” (Haines) Herriott, Oct. 31, 2007; and his sister, Nancy Elizabeth Fisher.
Mr. Herriott graduated from Romney High School, class of 1936. He was a life long farmer. Mr. Herriott was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army in the 1068 Signal Corps attached to the British Eighth Air Force. He served in the African and Italian Campaigns. His company was instrumental in establishing the air base in Foggia. He was awarded three Bronze Stars, EAME Theater Ribbon, four Overseas Bars, and a Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Herriott was a member of the American Legion Hampshire Post 91 and the VFW Wappocomo Post 1101 of Romney. He was a life long member of the Romney Presbyterian Church having served as a Deacon and was elected an Elder.
He was Past Master of the Clinton Lodge No. 86 A.F. & A. M., a member of the Farm Bureau for over 60 years, former member of the Board of Supervisors of the Potomac Valley Conservation District, a charter member of the Springfield Ruritan Club and a member of the Board of Directors of the Hampshire County Co-Op all of Romney.
Mr. Herriott is survived by one daughter, Margaret Blue “Missy” Herriott, Front Royal; one son, Charles B. “Chip” Herriott and wife Beth, Romney, one niece, Nancy Ann Judd, Shanks, W.Va.; and three nephews, John Charles Fisher and William Reece Fisher both of Berkeley Springs, W.Va. and Robert Ross Fisher, Romney.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney.
The funeral service will be Friday, Feb. 19, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Romney Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Barbara Johnson officiating.
Interment will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Shaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Romney.
