CUMBERLAND — William D. “Tom” Hill, 72, of Cumberland, passed away on Monday, Feb. 15, 2010 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 11, 1937 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late William Guy and Edna (Miller) Hill. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Hill; a son, William Hill Jr. and an infant, Dawn C. Hill.
Tom retired as foreman from The Cumberland City Water Department. He was a member of C.M.A. Christian Motorcycle Association and was a United States Army veteran. In his spare time, Tom liked collecting antiques and worked on automobiles and any type of motorized equipment. He was an avid Harley Davidson Motorcycle rider for many years and he enjoyed many trips on his Ultra Classic bike.
Surviving are a son, Leon Hill, Cumberland; many brothers and sisters; a special brother, Harvey Hill, Short Gap, W.Va.; a special sister-in-law, Margaret Hook and husband George, Cumberland; two nephews, Keith and wife Carla, New Market, TJ and wife Heather, Cumberland; a special friend, Thelma Walker, Petersburg; three special great-nieces, Elissa, Kayla and Hannah; and one special great nephew, Cameron. In addition, Tom is survived by several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nep-hews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A.,108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, (scarpellifuneralhomes.com) on Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Dietz officiating.
Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to be made to the American Cancer Society, 182 N. Mechanic St., Cumberland, MD 21502.
