PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Fleta Sager Shobe, 98, of Petersburg, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010 at her home.
She was born June 17, 1911 at Mathias, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late Robert A. W. Sager and Mary (Mathias) Sager. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, M. Harrison Shobe on Sept. 27, 1979; an infant sister; two brothers, Ted R. Sager and W. Darl Sager; and one nephew, T. LaMar Sager.
Her surviving relatives are one nephew, Stephen Sager of Singers Glen, Va.; three great nieces, Tami Kesner, Mary Beth Hardy and Stephanie Ours, all of Moorefield.
Mrs. Shobe was a 1929 graduate of Petersburg High School, St. John's Junior College, Shepherd College (now Shepherd University) and West Virginia University, where she received her Master's degree in education.
She served as a Grant County school teacher for 36 years, teaching at Forest Hill near Scherr, Grassy Ridge, Mt. Vernon near Mt. Storm, Fairview, Deep Spring, Johnson Run, Knobley, and Petersburg Elementary, which is where she taught 23 years until her retirement.
