INWOOD, W.Va. — Courtney Landis took control on each side of the floor, scoring a game-high 23 points and gathering 11 steals, to lead Allegany to a 54-39 win at Musselman in high school girls basketball Tuesday evening.

Landis made eight shots from the floor, including two threes, and went 5-for-6 at the free throw line. She also had four rebounds and four assists. Freshman Micah Wormack brought in 11 rebounds to go with six points and four blocks. Rachel Wormack finished with seven points and seven rebounds.

The Campers opened with a 22-13 lead in the first quarter and led 35-21 at halftime. Allegany had its worst period in the third quarter, but still led 39-29 at its conclusion.

Tarryn Logsdon and Jordan Hare had 10 points apiece during Allegany’s junior varsity 36-31 win.

Allegany (2-0) plays Mountain Ridge on Thursday at Campobello.

Hampshire    34

OAKLAND — Alicia Roth scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Southern built a big first-half lead and defeated Hampshire in the Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

Roth hit eight field goals to lead all scorers and her 10 rebounds were a team high for Southern (2-0), which outscored Hampshire 18-6 in the second quarter for a 30-14 halftime spread. Hampshire (2-1) got to within 37-30 after three quarters, but were held to only four points in the final eight minutes.

Hannah Horne added 12 points and Kambrie Bosley 10 for the Rams. Allyson Fout led the Trojans with 10 points.

Hampshire won the jayvee game 36-16. Annyssa Green had 10 points for Hampshire and Brianna Evans seven for Southern.

The Rams host Frankfort tonight. Hampshire plays again Saturday at Allegany.

HAGERSTOWN — Savannah Reed was an assist away from a triple-double and Karly Hipsley finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds as Calvary improved to 3-1 by beating Broadfording.

Reed scored 19 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out nine assists, and also had four steals. Hipsley was the only other Calvary scorer in double figures. Kerenne Shaffer added six points, five rebounds and three steals.

The Eagles’ defense played the starring role in the first half, as Calvary led 26-13 at intermission. A 24-point outburst in the third extended the margin to 50-20.

“Our defense is winning us games right now. Our pressure has really been working the last few games, and if we could make more of our layups we’d really be putting up some points,” said Calvary coach Rusty Kitzmiller.

Broadfording’s Jade Boone scored a game-high 22 points.

The Eagles, 2-1 in the Mason-Dixon Christian Conference, host Grace on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

East Hardy    36

BAKER, W.Va. — Marilyn Cassell had 18 points and 16 rebounds, but Pendleton spoiled the effort with a win over host East Hardy.

Nicole Hedrick scored 14 points and Hillary Ord added 11 as the Wildcats maintained a comfortable lead over the Cougars for most of the way.

Pendleton won the junior varsity game 37-27. Turner had 13 points for the Wildcats and Herbrant had 10 for East Hardy.

The Cougars (1-4) play Moorefield at 6 p.m., and Pendleton plays Petersburg at 7:30, on Friday in the Petersburg Holiday Tournament.
