ACM holds off Chesapeake for first victory

CUMBERLAND — Ricky Mosley had 27 points and 13 rebounds for Allegany College of Maryland as they edged Chesapeake, 79-77, in its home opener on Thursday.

The Trojans led 40-32 at halftime with help from rebounding and second chance points.

The roles reversed in the second half with Chesapeake out-rebounding and out-scrapping Allegany. The Skipjacks flustered the Trojans with full and half-court pressing to keep it close. Though Allegany was able to counter with good ball handling from Garrett D’Atri, who also went 9-for-12 from the free-throw line to account for all of his scoring.

Alex Brayboy scored 17 points and Larry Terry added 16 for Allegany.

Dion Bivens and Akanni Salako each had 19 to lead Chesapeake in its regular season opener.

Allegany (1-2) hosts Northern Virginia on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
