Calvary moves on in MDCC Tournament

KEYSER, W.Va. — Mikala Miller scored 15 points to lead Frankfort to a 43-40 win at Keyser in the West Virginia Class AA Region II, Section 1 semi-finals Tuesday.

The Falcons held a slim advantage throughout, leading 16-10 after one and 26-20 at halftime.

The Golden Tornado made it a five-point game going into the fourth, but failed to get over the hump.

Madison Pfaff added 10 points. Katie Jan and Stephanie Cornachia each had nine for the Falcons.

Carly Grady had a game-high 20 in the loss.

Keyser finishes their season at 12-10.

Frankfort (13-10) will play in the Region II, Section 1 Championship at Berkeley Springs Thursday at 7 p.m.

Hampshire    63

ROMNEY, W.Va. — Tori Veach and Mary Feaster each scored 17 points to lead Hampshire on a 63-30 clobbering of Lewis County in the West Virginia Class AAA, Region II, Section 2 Playoffs at Hampshire Tuesday.

The Trojans cruised after turning a 14-11 first quarter lead into 43-21 by halftime.

Veach also collected nine rebounds. Allyson Fout added 11 points. Taylor Harwood had nine steals and seven assists to go with two points.

Brooklyn Kirky led Lewis County with 12.

Hampshire (10-12) hosts Elkins in the Region II, Section 2 Championship Friday at 7 p.m.

Calvary    45

CRESAPTOWN — Karly Hipsley accounted for 17 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks and four assists to lead Calvary in a 45-12 rout of Broadfording in the first round of the Mason-Dixon Christian Conference Playoffs at Calvary Tuesday.

Broadfording was stymied in the first half, scoring just two points. Calvary led by 21 at the break.

Savannah Reed added 10 points and four assists for the Eagles.

Kiara White led with five points in the loss.

Calvary (15-7, 8-5 in MDCC) moves on to play at New Life in the MDCC Playoffs Friday at 3 p.m.

Allegany    49

WILLIAMSPORT — Tournament MVP Courtney Landis scored 14 points to lead a balanced attack that carried No. 4 Allegany past Williamsport, 49-36, in the championship game of Richard E. Doub Holiday Classic on Tuesday.

Allegany (13-9) beat Jefferson 68-46 in the opening round of the tournament — on Dec. 28. The second day of the tourney was postponed by snow, and the championship game was rescheduled to last night.

Landis hit four field goals and 5 of 7 free throws for the Campers, who led 12-6 after one quarter and stayed on top the rest of the way.

Rachel Wormack added 12 points, Kristin Sell had 11 and Micah Wormack 10 for Allegany.

Victoria Key and Hannah Kastelein led Williamsport (13-8) with nine points.

Allegany, 6-2 in its last eight games, will host Northern in the opening round of the Class 1A West sectional on Friday at 7 p.m.
