Local athletes set sights on state titles
A host of local athletes, including five individual region champions and five region champion relay teams, will have their sights set on state titles this weekend at the Maryland Track and Field State Championships at Morgan State University.

Ridgeley VFW runs over Keyser, 12-2
Kirk Robinette, Noah Bible and Nate Strietbeck tripled to lead a 12-hit attack that carried Ridgeley VFW/First Peoples past Keyser Moose, 12-2, at Kruk Field.

FSU’s Kean named CAC Player of Year
Frostburg State junior outfielder Kevin Kean was named the Capital Athletic Conference’s baseball player of the year and had five teammates join him on the all-conference team, the most selections for the Bobcats since joining the league in 2011.

Ringler ropes in 2-1 win
Jessica Ringler got out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the bottom of the sixth, then doubled home the go-ahead run in the seventh to send Hope for Hyndman Charter to a 2-1 win over Tussey Mountain in an opening round game of the Class A, District V playoffs.

Alco rolls to title game
Allegany spotted Bohemia Manor an early lead and then dominated things the rest of the way, rolling to a 9-3 victory in their Class 1A state semifinal Tuesday night at McCurdy Field.

It’s déjà vu all over again for the Mountain Ridge Miners after they beat Perryville by one run, 4-3, for the second straight year to earn a return trip to the Maryland 1A State Finals this weekend at the University of Maryland.

Petersburg, Moorefield seek West Virginia championships
When Petersburg takes to the field today sometime around noon it will be the latest in a season any team in school history has ever played as the Vikings take part in their first-ever West Virginia Class AA State softball tournament when they face James Monroe in the opening round at Jackson Park in Vienna, W.Va.
