FROSTBURG — Seventh seeded Marywood scored four straight goals and stunned second-seeded Frostburg State, 4-1, in the quarterfinals of the ECAC South Region men’s soccer tournament on Wednesday.
The Pacers (11-6-3) scored two goals in the first half and two more in the second for a 4-0 cushion to secure a spot in the tournament semifinals. They will play at top-seeded Penn State Behrend on Saturday.
Frostburg State, which played in the ECAC Tournament for the second year in a row, finished 12-3-4.
Marywood’s Christian Lawlor (16:19) and Kris Kassell (34:44) provided the offensive scoring in the opening half. Lawlor scored again just over five minutes into the second half, and Ryan Jones converted a penalty kick to make it 4-0 at 51:43.
The Bobcat senior tandem of Ryan Russell and Shawn Baker connected for one final time in their collegiate careers to help avoid the shutout. Russell slid a long pass through the middle of the Marywood defense to a charging Baker who beat keeper Shane Quinn for the goal.
Quinn and Frostburg goalie Abiye Jack had four saves each. Marywood held a 16-11 edge in shots, including an 11-6 advantage in the second half.
