FROSTBURG — Two players scored in double figures as Shenandoah used its strong first half to propel itself over Frostburg State 59-48 Tuesday evening at Bobcat Arena.
The Bobcats made a couple of charges in the second half, but couldn’t take control in the non-conference.
Shenandoah’s Sarah Dixon scored a game-high 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Sara D’Amico added 14 points.
Frostburg State was powered by Elaina Hummel’s 13 points on six baskets, including a three-pointer, and made two of her three free throws. Ronje James and Stephanie Straka each finished with nine points.
Straka hit a layup at 12:50 of the second half that capped an 11-2 run as FSU trailed by two 37-35. Nearly seven minutes later, Hummel grabbed an offensive rebound and made a layup that capped an 8-2 run that brought the Bobcats to within four, 49-45, with just 5:57 to play.
That was as close as Frostburg would get as Shenandoah (2-6) opened up a 14-point cushion behind an 8-0 spurt.
Shenandoah led at halftime, 31-22.
Hummel ended the game’s scoring with a three-pointer with 24 seconds to play. James had a game-high nine rebounds and Hummel pulled down six.
Frostburg (2-4) visits Salisbury Saturday for 1 p.m. Capital Athletic Conference game.
