Wormack powers Alco over Hampshire

CUMBERLAND — Rachel Wormack pulled down 18 rebounds to go with 17 points to lead Allegany to a 51-47 win over Hampshire at home Saturday afternoon.

Both offenses struggled in the opening quarter, especially Hampshire, who scored just five points.

The Trojans bounced back with 19 second quarter points to tie it at 24 going into the locker room.

Allegany’s best offensive quarter came in the third, with 16 points, putting it up 40-35. That allowed them to be outscored 12-11 in the fourth and still hold on.

Hampshire had 10 different players score but none in double figures.

Rachel’s sister Micah scored seven points and grabbed 20 rebounds. Courtney Landis recorded 14 points, four assists and three steals.

Hampshire (6-3) plays at Fort Hill Monday at 6 p.m.

Allegany (6-3) hosts Fort Hill Wednesday at 7:30.

Calvary Christian    32

FREDERICK — Elizabeth Catoe, smothered by a strong defensive effort for three quarters, scored 14 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter to send New Life past Calvary in a Mason-Dixon Conference game.

Catoe was kept in check by a Chesni Ultis and Calvary’s box-and-one defense. But in the fourth quarter, with two Eagles in foul trouble and another sidelined by an injury, New Life spread the floor and Catoe cashed in by making four field goals and going 6 for 6 from the foul line.

Calvary led 6-3 after the first quarter, but couldn’t keep up with New Life on the offensive end.

“New Life is probably the best team in the league. Chesni did a good job defensively and even though we were down by nine (19-10) at halftime I thought we were playing great defense,” said Calvary coach Rusty Kitzmiller.

Payton Emerick had nine points, Savannah Reed eight points and seven rebounds and Kerenne Shaffer six points, six steals and five rebounds for the Eagles (6-3, 3-2 MDCC).

Calvary will host Allegany on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Berlin    78

Salisbury    17

SALISBURY, Pa. — Shelby Coughenour led Berlin with 15 points in a rout at Salisbury Friday.

Everyone on Berlin’s team played and scored in the game. Starting with Coughenour, Erica Craig and Alessa Fieg who combined to score all of their 23 first quarter points.

They added 20 to that in the second to take a 43-7 halftime lead.

Berlin’s bench was nearly as good in the second half. They led 62-10 after three and won the fourth, 16-7.

Craig finished with 12, while Fieg scored 11.

Emily Lowery led Salisbury with six.

Salisbury hosts Meyersdale Tuesday at 6 p.m.
