Landis leads Alco over No. 2 FH, 2-1, for share of City title

CUMBERLAND — Courtney Landis scored the eventual game-winner and assisted on the first goal of the game to lead Allegany to a 2-1 City League victory over second-ranked Fort Hill Saturday at Greenway during the Homecoming soccer game, assuring the Lady Campers no less than a tie for the City title.

Chloe Neff scored the first goal for Allegany at 21:46 of the first half on an assist by Landis. Landis then scored unassisted at 10:51 to make it 2-0 at halftime.

Fort Hill got on the board at 11:53 of the second half when Alexis Kimmel scored from a corner kick by Ashley Parker.

Fort Hill outshot Allegany, 13-4, while Alco had a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. Allegany's Tori Bohrer had nine saves in goal while Fort Hill's Heather Frank had one save.

Allegany (6-6 overall, 3-1 City, 4-5 AMAC) will close its regular season Tuesday at Southern. Fort Hill (7-3-1, 2-1, 5-3-1) will play at top-ranked Mountain Ridge on Tuesday.

Fort Hill won the junior varsity game, 4-0, as Jewell Lease and Brooke Puffenbarger both had two goals. Abbie Stevens had two assists and Haley Walters one.

Hampshire 5, Petersburg 0

ROMNEY, W.Va. — Jayden Ware scored the final two goals during Hampshire’s win over Petersburg Saturday as the Trojans finished the regular season.

The Trojans led 4-0 at the half on goals from Taylor Harwood, Shelby Wilkins, Tessa Mulledy and Ware. The first three goals were unassisted, with Ware’s being assisted by Brittany Maphis.

Ware added the only goal of the second half.

The Trojans defense strangled the Petersburg offense by allowing no shots and no corner kicks. Hampshire, on the other hand, took 25 shots and got two corner kicks.

Kelsie Roby had five saves for the Vikings.

Hampshire finishes 12-5-3 and will open West Virginia Class AAA, Region II, Section 2 playoffs on Thursday at Elkins.
