FSU’s Young nominee for national award
DALLAS — The National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame has announced that Frostburg State University senior wide receiver Anthony Young is a candidate and semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy.
Young is one of 147 student-athletes nominated for the 2012 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards. The list of candidates also comprise the list of semifinalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy, which recognizes an individual as the best football scholar-athlete in the nation.
Young is a three-year starter and has started 25 straight games for the Bobcats, is second in school history in receptions (159), tied for fourth in receiving yards (1,963) and seventh in touchdown receptions (14).
Young holds the school record for receptions in a single season (72 in 2011), receptions in a single game (16), receiving yards in a single game (248) and receiving touchdowns in a single game (3).
Young, who has caught at least one pass in 27 straight games, earned 2011 Empire 8 Second Team honors after setting career marks for receptions (72) and yards (819).
