Pendleton softball wins, 1-0

— PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Whitney Lough and Codi Evick locked horns in an opening day pitching duel with Lough’s Petersburg Vikings getting the best of the Pendleton Wildcats in a 1-0 win Thursday afternoon.

The only run came during Petersburg’s second inning when Samantha Watts got a one out single, stole second and went to third on a bunt single by Devin Brosh. Watts would later score on a throwing error.

Lough and Rachel Thompson added singles for Petersburg. Lough struck out six, walked one and yielded four singles in a complete game. Evick allowed just four hits as well, but issued five walks to go against five walks.

Danielle Hoover singled twice for Pendleton, and Evick and Beth Heneny had one single each.

Petersburg plays at Frankfort at noon on Saturday.
