POTOMAC PARK - Jamie Pollock raced home on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh inning to score the winning run and lift WEPCO Credit Union past Chessie Credit Union, 5-4, for its third straight Rec Baseball League championship Wednesday evening at Holler Field.
Jamie Stowell had a pair of hits and hurled all seven innings to lead WEPCO, which swept the best-of-three championship series and finished the season with an overall record of 20-2-1. Stowell scattered 10 hits, walked only three and struck out 13.
Matt Farris doubled and singled, Josh Plummer singled twice and Sean Nolan, Blaine Leasure and Josh Neilson doubled for Chessie (17-3-2) which lost despite outhitting WEPCO 10-6.
WEPCO, which never trailed, grabbed a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Daniel Warnick walked and Marcus McGinnis and Stowell singled to load the bases. The first run came home on a fielder's choice off the bat of Jeremy Shingler. Ryan Colmer followed by ripping a two-run double to left-center field to make it 3-0.
Chessie countered with three runs of its own in the top of the second to tie the game. Farris and Josh Weimer singled and moved up a base on a passed ball to start the inning. Plummer smacked a two-run single and Corey Greig's RBI single knotted things at 3-3.
Stowell singled and scored on a two-out single by Tom Holtschneider to give WEPCO a 4-3 lead in the third.
The score remained 4-3 until the seventh, when both teams scored single runs.
Chessie tied it in the top of the inning when Plummer singled and scored on a single by Logan Harden.
Pollock led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk and moved to third on a single to right by Warnick, who stole second to put runners on second and third with no outs. Pollock then scored the game-winning run on a passed ball.
