A tie was all Chessie Federal Credit Union needed to win the Rec Baseball league regular season title, and a 5-5 tie is what it got after going eight innings with American Legion Friday evening.
Both teams are playoff bound and begin postseason play on Monday. Chessie will host either Casselman Valley or Sweitzer, Simson and Associates; while the Legion will play WEPCO Credit Union in Westernport. Both are best-of-three series.
Chessie’s Matt Farris hit a two-run double in the third inning to tie the score 3-3.
Dylan Norris slapped three singles for Legion, which outhit Chessie 10-6. Trevor Korns had two singles and two runs batted in.
Chessie got diving catches in the field from John Richards and Josh Plummer. The gem by Richards, at shortstop, came in the sixth. Plummer made a diving catch in left center field and doubled up a runner at first.
Chessie wrapped the regular season with a 15-1-2 record, and Post 13 ended up 14-3-1.
