CUMBERLAND - Bill Freeman reached on an error and scored on an error in the ninth inning to lift WEPCO past the Times-News 4-3 at Donahue Field Thursday evening.
Tied 2-2 after seven innings, both teams scored a run in the eighth. Thomas Holtschneider singled and scored when Jeremy Shingler was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the top of the eighth for WEPCO, and Forhest Crass reached base on an outfield error, stole a base and scored on a passed ball for Times-News.
In the WEPCO ninth, Freeman reached on an error, moved to second on a single by Patrick Booth, and raced home on an infield error of a hard-hit ball by Holtschneider.
Booth made two key defensive plays in right field for WEPCO. He threw out a baserunner at home in the third inning and made a diving catch that was turned into a double play in the seventh.
Derek Cessare had a double and two singles, Freeman a double and a single, Holtschneider three singles, Booth two singles and Jordan Dye a two-run single for WEPCO (15-1-1), which now awaits the playoffs.
Crass hit two doubles, Nick Corbett had a double and a single and Eddie Szymanski, Danny Mauk and Chris Kendall had two singles for Times-News, which plays Casselman Valley tonight at Salisbury.
