POTOMAC PARK — Chessie Federal Credit Union used a five-run second inning to break a 2-2 tie on its way to a six-inning, 13-3 Rec League playoff-clinching victory over Hite Roofing Sunday afternoon at Hamilton Field.
Chessie enters the playoffs with a 9-7 record. Hite finishes 8-7-1 in the final regular season game for both teams that coincidentally turned into a play-in game.
Chessie belted out 11 hits and Hite Roofing finished with nine, but Chessie’s defense limited Hite Roofing to only one run after the first inning.
Blaine Leasure led the Chessie hitters with two doubles and three RBIs. Josh Neilson tripled and singled. Josh Smearman had three base hits and Josh Jenkins two. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Sean Fazenbaker drove in the 12th and 13th runs with his single that ended the game due to the 10-run rule.
Hite Roofing was paced by Shane Malloy’s and David Smith’s two singles. Scott Rice had an RBI and two base hits and Kody Boyer doubled.
Chessie plays the Times-News in the first game of a best of three series at Allegany College of Maryland beginning at 5:30 p.m. The complete Rec League playoff scheduled is listed in the Sports Roundup on Page 6B.
