CUMBERLAND — Witnesses to an alleged South End breaking and entering called police Sunday night and the suspect was located and taken into custody.
Cumberland Police charged Jerome J. Phillips III, 33, of Klosterman Avenue, LaVale, with fourth-degree burglary. He was released from the Allegany County Detention Center after posting $5,000 bond Monday night.
Officers were called to a residence in the 100 block of South Street at 9 p.m. and determined that the suspect had fled from the residence. He was located at a residence on Pennsylvania Avenue.
Witnesses told police that a vehicle stopped in front of the South Street residence, then pulled a short distance down the street. The driver got out and went to the front door and knocked. After getting no response, he jumped over a fence and went to the rear of the residence. The witnesses observed him inside and contacted the police.
