FRIENDSVILLE — A Berkeley County, W.Va., man was seriously injured when his pickup truck traveled out of control on snow-covered Interstate 68 late Monday afternoon and into the path of a tractor-trailer in the opposite lanes, according to Maryland State Police.
Paul Stansbury, 54, of Falling Waters was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition a few hours after the accident, police said.
Jerry Negley, 49, of Greencastle, Pa., sustained minor injuries in the 4:16 p.m. crash and was also treated at the Cumberland hospital.
Tfc. Aaron Falcone reported that Stansbury was driving a 2001 Ford F-150 on westbound I-68 at the 10-mile marker where the road was snow-covered and slushy as snow continued to fall. The truck traveled across the median and into the eastbound lanes where it was struck head-on by a tractor-trailer operated by Negley.
A state police accident reconstruction specialist assisted in the investigation along with the state police Commercial Vehicle En-forcement Division.
Eastbound I-68 was closed for about two hours.
Northern Garrett Rescue Squad and Friendsville and Grantsville volunteer fire departments also responded.
