LAVALE — A traffic stop by Maryland State Police on U.S. Route 40 at Red Hill early Wednesday led to the arrest of a Mineral County, W.Va., man on handgun charges.
Ricky A. Vecchioni Jr., 30, was charged with firearm possession with felony conviction, possession of a firearm in a vehicle and theft under $100 following the arrest made by Tfc. Mike Ross at 12:11 a.m.
Following a bond hearing, Vecchioni was released on his personal recognizance pending trial in district court.
Police said the stop was made when the trooper determined registration plates on the vehicle operated by Vecchioni were stolen. During the stop, the trooper discovered a Smith and Wesson 38-special handgun located beside the driver seat of the vehicle.
