CUMBERLAND — Two city men were arrested on drug distribution charges late Friday morning following a traffic stop on Virginia Avenue for not displaying a license plate on the front of their vehicle, Cumberland Police said.
A police dog alerted to the possible presence of drugs at the time of the stop led to the arrest of Brandon M. Holliday, 30, and Gary M. Spencer Jr., 31.
Both defendants were charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (not marijuana), possession of CDS not marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia following the 11:27 a.m. stop.
Following bond hearings, Holliday was jailed on $4,000 bond set by a district court commissioner. Spencer was released by the commissioner, pending trial in district court.
Police said a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a pill container located next to both occupants. Several baggies of suspected heroin were reportedly discovered inside the pill container.
