Fire marshal to probe blaze

MOUNT SAVAGE — The Maryland State Fire Marshal was called to investigate a Sunday morning fire that raged through a garage and home at 16620 Blackberry Road near Mount Savage, according to a spokeswoman for Allegany County Joint Communications.

Nine volunteer fire companies were dispatched after an alert was received at 4:33 a.m.

LaVale, Corriganville, Clarysville, Mount Savage, Frostburg, Shaft, Ellerslie, Midland and Wellersburg, Pa., responded. Frostburg Area Ambulance Service also was sent, though no hospital transports took place.

The fire was knocked down at 5:27 a.m. and firefighters were back at their stations at 7:05 a.m.

    A little after 9 p.m. Saturday Cumberland Police officers stopped a vehicle on Park Street for a registration violation and eventually charged passenger Dewayne Anthony Jones, 28, Cumberland, with intending to distribute marijuana in his possession.
