Intoxicated driver strikes house, cars
STONYCREEK TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A Somerset County man Pennsylvania State Police found to be “visibly intoxicated” early Sunday morning has been charged after the vehicle he was driving struck two parked vehicles and a house.
Police said Grant Streng, of Stoystown, is responsible for reckless driving while traveling north on Coleman Station Road and went off the roadway into a yard, knocking over two mailboxes and striking a parked truck and car.
The car was pushed into the corner of a home. Streng’s 1994 Cutlass then struck the front porch posts and continued through the yard. Police said Streng was unable to make it up a hill and slid backward.
He made a second attempt, sliding backward again and “narrowly missing the heating fuel tanks for the residence.”
Streng exited his vehicle and was taken into the homeowners’ kitchen until police arrived.
Police said the Cutlass is a “complete loss, with severe damage everywhere, including missing the driver’s rear wheel assembly.”
When troopers arrived, police said Streng refused to tell them what had happened.
The homeowner’s truck suffered front-end damage and the car has severe rearend damage, including the trunk that was ripped off the vehicle and landed approximately 30 feet away.
