11/23 - Stores evacuated in bomb scare
OAKLAND — Shoppers were evacuated from stores and the parking lot of the WalMart Plaza Friday evening, after a man claiming to have an explosive device robbed the nearby Shoe Show.
Garrett County Sheriff’s Deputies and Oakland City Police are looking for a white male in his 40s or 50s, approximately 6 feet tall, clean-shaven, who was wearing a black toboggan with white design on the back, a black leather jacket and blue jeans. Police are calling him a suspect in the armed robbery, which occurred around 5:30 p.m. Friday.
No one was hurt during the robbery, according to a press release from the Garrett Bureau of Investigation. An investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Bomb Squad determined that the device, which the suspect left behind when he fled, was not an explosive.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Garrett County Sheriff’s office at (301) 334-1911.
