FRIENDSVILLE — A woods fire that extended to a private residence at 438 Malachei Way late Sunday afternoon damaged a residential storage building, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The 5:07 p.m. fire at the Toney Artice property caused a loss estimated at $2,000 to the structure and $3,000 to its contents, according to Deputy Fire Marshal Mike Mattingly, who determined the cause of the fire.
More than 30 volunteer firefighters from Friends-ville, Deep Creek, Accident and Addison (Pa.) responded after a passerby discovered the fire and reported it to the Garrett County 911 center.
The woods fire that spread to the 10-by-20-foot storage building is being investigated by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
