Driver arrested after striking car

CUMBERLAND — A city resident was arrested Tuesday night after she allegedly struck a parked car with the vehicle she was driving.

Cumberland Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash at Arch and Third streets at 9:15 p.m.

Witnesses said a vehicle had traveled along Arch Street without headlights on and struck a vehicle parked along the street. Police spoke with the driver of the suspect vehicle, Buffy Marie Peterson, 34, who was not injured.

Officers suspected that Peterson was driving under the influence and conducted several field sobriety tests before placing her under arrest.

Peterson was charged with failure to control speed to avoid a collision, driving while her license was suspended and driving while impaired by drugs. She was issued citations and released pending trial.
