FROSTBURG — Charges are pending against a Mount Savage man in connection with a high-speed chase early Saturday that occurred before the driver lost control of his vehicle a short time later on Parkersburg Road.
Matthew D. Morrison, 20, was taken to Memorial Hospital by Mount Savage ambulance following the crash that occurred at about 5:30 a.m.
The accident was investigated by Maryland State Police.
Frostburg Police Sgt. Mike Sweitzer attempted to stop Morrison on East Main Street at about 5:14 a.m. after Sweitzer observed the vehicle being operated without lights activated and on the wrong side of the road.
Morrison reportedly failed to stop his Jeep vehicle and then turned onto Depot Road and New Hope Road with Sweitzer in pursuit. Police said that Morrison reached speeds of 80 mph before Sweitzer ceased the pursuit due to safety concerns because of the wet road surface.
A short time later, Frostburg Police received a report the vehicle had crashed on Parkersburg Road. Sweitzer drove to the scene and identified the suspect vehicle and driver.
