CUMBERLAND — A 25-year-old woman has been charged with arson in connection with the Aug. 7 fire in a residence in the 500 block of North Mechanic Street where she resided, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Julie L. Davis was charged with first-degree arson and first-degree malicious burning and was jailed Friday in lieu of $10,000 bond at the Allegany County Detention Center.
The arrest was made following a joint investigation by the fire marshal’s office and the Cumberland Fire Department. The fire originated in a second-floor bedroom and caused damages estimated at $35,000.
Physical evidence and other information gathered during the investigation led to the arrest. However, no motive has been determined, according to the fire marshal’s office.
