CUMBERLAND — An alleged domestic assault in the 100 block of Washington Street on Monday left one man injured and another man jailed on various charges, Cumberland Police said.
Ernest Lee Baker, 35, of Keyser, W.Va., was charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct following the 7:26 a.m. incident.
Following a bond hearing, Baker was jailed at the Allegany County Detention Center on $50,000 bond.
Police said the victim stated he was dropping off the suspect’s estranged wife when the two men got out of their vehicles and began to argue.
Baker then allegedly struck the victim in the head with a baseball bat and in the face three times with his fist.
The female victim told police Baker slapped her in the face during the incident.
Baker drove out of the area but was located later and was arrested by the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office outside the city limits.
The male victim was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center by the Cumberland Fire Department Ambulance.
The female victim apparently did not require medical treatment.
