CUMBERLAND — Early Friday morning, Cumberland Police officers responded to the area of Mechanic and Baltimore streets for a report of a person destroying Christmas decorations.
Witnesses to the 3:51 a.m. incident gave police a de-scription of the suspect. Officers found Michael Wayne Harper Jr., 21, of Polk Street in the area.
Harper at first denied being involved but then admitted that he pulled down a large Christmas wreath near the fountain, police said. Several Christmas decorations having a value of more than $500 were destroyed.
Police charged Harper with destruction of property over $500 and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was held in the Allegany County Detention Center on $4,500 bond.
