CUMBERLAND — A two-week investigation of an armed robbery complaint in the 300 block of Bedford Street has led to the arrest of a 29-year-old city man, Cumberland Police said.
David Er-vin Laisure was served an arrest warrant Thursday charging him with armed robbery, robbery, dangerous weapon with intent to injure, theft less than $1,000 and se-cond-de-gree assault.
Following bail review in district court, Laisure remained jailed late Friday morning on $5,000 at the Allegany County Detention Center, pending bail review in district court.
The arrest was made after police executed a search warrant at an undisclosed location and following several interviews.
The charges stemmed from an alleged incident on Jan. 12 in which Laisure reportedly telephoned a woman he knew and asked her to pick him up and give him a ride across town. The woman, accompanied by her boyfriend, granted the request, picked up Laisure and took him to the requested location.
However, before exiting the vehicle, Laisure, who was sitting in the rear seat, then pulled a knife and placed it to the woman’s throat and demanded money, said police.
The victim complied and as he exited the vehicle, the victim opened the door, striking Laisure and causing him to drop the knife and run from the scene.
