CUMBERLAND — As of Monday morning, Cumberland police were still trying to get in touch with family members of the man who committed suicide after pointing a handgun at a city police officer Saturday.
His identity will not be released until family members are notified, police said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the 11:36 a.m. shooting in the 800 block of Maryland Avenue. Police said he pulled a handgun out of a backpack, pointed it at the officer and when he was directed to drop the gun, shot himself.
