Fatal accident in Somerset County weather related - 10/31

SOMERSET, Pa. — A weather-related accident late Monday claimed the life of an 81-year-old Massachusetts woman in Upper Turkeyfoot Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Alice Hynes of Williamstown died at Somerset Hospital following the 9:36 p.m. crash that occurred in the area of 6000 Kingwood Road, police said.

Hynes was a passenger in a 2011 Honda Civic operated by Abigail O’Connor, of Confluence, who was able to free herself from the vehicle after it crossed the center line across the slush-covered highway and rolled into a farm pond on the east side of Route 281, police said.

O’Connor attempted to free Hynes who was trapped under water following the crash.

Both occupants were wearing seat belts.
