N.Y. man charged in Garrett robbery - 11/15

OAKLAND —  A Syracuse, N.Y., man has been extradited to Garrett County to face charges in connection with the November 2009 robbery of the Shoe Show in Oakland, according to the Garrett County Sheriff’s Office.

Garrett deputies brought Gary Ross LaTray, 53, to the Garrett County Detention Center, where he is jailed on armed robbery, assault, weapons and theft charges.

LaTray remained jailed Wednesday without bond, pending trial in district court.

Police said LaTray is a suspect in at least five other similar robberies and retail stores in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Virginia that occurred in 2009.

LaTray was initially arrested by West Virginia State Police in Buckhannon in February 2010. He had been serving a sentence in a federal penitentiary for a parole violation prior to being returned to Garrett County.

Garrett County authorities obtained a warrant for LaTray in December 2009. LaTray allegedly robbed the Shoe Show on Nov. 20, 2009, claiming that he had an explosive device in his possession.
