— CUMBERLAND — A city man was arrested Thursday after he briefly escaped custody from a police cruiser, Cumberland Police said.
Shawn Michael Fear, 35, was charged with second-degree escape, resisting arrest, driving under the influence, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, and possession of drug paraphernalia following the 4:26 p.m. incident.
Following a bond hearing, Fear was jailed without bond at the Allegany County Detention Center.
The arrest was made after Fear was struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle the wrong way on Frederick Street. Fear was treated at the scene by Cumberland Fire Department personnel but declined transport to the hospital.
Police arrested Fear and secured in a police vehicle before he escaped and ran away. He was taken back into custody after a brief chase on foot.
