Matt Wright leads Tri-State to Pen-Mar title

Titans finish 19-5 after sweeping Petersburg, Orioles

CUMBERLAND - Matt Wright had a baseball player's dream weekend totaling 12 hits as he helped the Cumberland Tri-State Titans wrap the regular season championship by sweeping the Cumberland Orioles on Sunday at the Rock.

The Titans won the first game 3-0 and took the second 10-5.

On Saturday, the Titans swept Petersburg 8-0 and 8-2.

Wright was a hitting and run-producing machine for the Titans. He had seven hits, drove in three runs and scored twice against the Orioles and had five hits, two RBIs and scored three times against Petersburg.

In the Titans' 3-0 victory over the Orioles, Wright had three base hits and Justin Munson drove in a run off of a hit. Bill Davis allowed only three hits and had five strikeouts getting the complete-game victory.

The Orioles' Chris Chambers and Brandon Benson had two of the three hits.

In the second game, Tri-State overcame a 3-2 deficit to win 10-5 with five runs in the fourth and three in the fifth as the two teams combined for 20 hits, with the Titans getting 12.

Wright was the leading hitter with four singles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Josh Logsdon had three RBIs on two singles, Jimmy Barrett had an RBI double and Justin Jenkins singled and had two sacrifice flys with three RBIs.

Chambers and Benson also led the Orioles in the second game. Chambers had three hits, including a triple, an RBI and scored twice. Benson had a base hit, walked and scored twice and had an RBI. Josh Kuykendall and Fisher each had RBI singles.

The Titans finished 19-5 and will play the Clarksburg-Petersburg 1 p.m. winner at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Frank Loria Field in Clarksburg.

On Saturday, Wright powered the Titans' 13-hit attack with three base hits, an RBI and a score in their 8-2 victory over Petersburg.

Logsdon and Barrett both had two hits. Logsdon doubled on one and scored while Barrett scored and drove in a run.

Petersburg was led by Paul Nicol's three hits and T.M. Frye had an RBI triple.

In the night cap, Justin Munson fired a shut out while Wright tripled, singled, scored twice and had an RBI. Logsdon had two RBIs off of two hits and Rich Stiffey doubled with two RBIs.

Larry Kruk had three and Chris Szafran had two of Petersburg's six hits - all singles.
