Cumberland takes three from Clarksburg

POTOMAC PARK - Chad Chambers fired a one-hitter and Marc Atkins and Josh Kuykendall had two-hitters to lead Cumberland to a rare tripleheader sweep of Clarksburg in Pen-Mar League baseball Sunday at Holler Field.

The tripleheader was scheduled because of rainouts earlier in the year. All three games were five innings, with the Orioles winning 2-1, 9-0 and 11-0.

In game one, Atkins struck out four and walked only one.

Tied 1-1, Jeremy Fisher singled home Mike Hutchinson with the winning run in the bottom of the fifth.

Fisher finished with two singles and Hutchinson singled and stole two bases.

In the second game, Sean Fazenbaker doubled and singled, Hutchinson singled twice and Kuykendall had a two-run single.

Kuykendall, staked to a 6-0 first-inning lead, struck out three in the win.

In game three, Chad Chambers hit a grand slam and Hutchinson, Fazenbaker, Sean Collette and Shawn Lindner had two singles. Brandon Benson doubled.

Chambers struck out four in his one-hitter.

Cumberland (17-8 overall, 12-4 Pen-Mar) will play Clarksburg in a makeup doubleheader on Wednesday, at 6 o'clock, at Garrett College.
