Titans take four

Oakland, O's split (just) two

From Staff Reports

CUMBERLAND - Thanks to rainouts back on June 14, the Tri-State Titans captured a sweep in a rare quadrupleheader played with Petersburg Sunday at Allegany College of Maryland.

The Titans dominated on the mound, allowing three runs, only two of them earned, over the four contests. The Titans got a 6-0 win in a shutout from Justin Munson during the first game that began on June 14, but was stopped after four innings from rain. Tri-State then got a 5-1 win in the second game scheduled for June 14, and picked up another 5-1 in the third.

The Titans won the final game 2-1 by getting a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh.

During Munson's shutout, Justin Jenkins hit a solo home run in the first inning, and added a triple in the later innings. Brian Powell finished with a pair of singles and Josh Logsdon added a two-run triple.

Munson allowed six hits, walked one, and hit another while striking out four.

Chris Szafran and Chris Ashby had two singles each for Petersburg.

Jenkins got the Titans going offensively in the second game as well when he homered with one runner on in the first inning of the second game. Jenkins finished with three total RBIs, getting another on a single. Justin Shellhouse contributed a RBI single.

Petersburg got a triple from Szafran.

Tony Burns earned the win after allowing no earned runs, no walks, two hits and had five strikeouts.

In the second 5-1 win, Logsdon finished with three runs driven in on a couple of singles. Al Waugerman and Bill Davis had a RBI double, Brian Powell doubled and Munson hit two singles.

Logsdon and Jenkins combined for eight strikeouts, with Logsdon working the first five frames.

Brian Lockhart had two singles for Petersburg. T.M. Frye doubled, and Szafran had a single and a run scored.

The Titans completed the sweep by working some two-out magic in the bottom of the seventh of the fourth game. With the score tied at 1-1 and two outs already recorded Jenkins singled and stole second. Matt Wright and Jimmy Barrett drew walks to load the bases and Derek Hetz got the game-winning RBI on a bases-loaded walk.

Petersburg was led by a Lockhart double.

Bill Davis earned the victory with six strikeouts and three hits allowed, while Petersburg pitching combined for eight walks.

Tri-State (13-5) plays a doubleheader at Oakland on Saturday.
