POTOMAC PARK - Oakland spotted the Cumberland Orioles a 2-0 lead after the first inning, then Torie Poholski settled down while his teammates' bats got hot for a 4-2 opening-game Pen-Mar West Virginia League victory Sunday at Holler Field.
In the second game, the Orioles returned the favor as Tony Fetters only allowed three hits in a 3-1 Cumberland win for the doubleheader split.
In the opener, Oakland tied the game with a two-run fourth inning and then added a run in the next two innings in its 11-hit attack.
Corey Bosley, Bill Reams and Brian Linhart were the leading hitters. Reams was 3-for-4 while Bosley was 2-for-4 with a single and a double. Linhart had an RBI as he singled and doubled as well. James Altobello and Joe Wilt each scored a run as did Eric Johnson.
Poholski struck out nine and walked two while scattering six hits.
Mike Hutchinson, Josh Dolly and Jeremy Fisher led the Orioles at the plate. They each scored a run and Dolly and Fisher each drove in a run. Dolly had two hits, including a double.
Josh Kuykendal had eight strikeouts and also gave up two walks.
In the second game, Fetters struck out six and walked four while allowing just three singles.
Hutchinson had two RBIs and Chad Chambers drove in one. Dolly and Sean Fazenbaker, who had two hits, each scored for the Orioles.
On Saturday, Oakland pounded out 19 hits cruising over Clarksburg 18-4 at Garrett College.
Linhart had the big hit with a two-run home run in the sixth inning. The game, however, was Oakland's with a nine-run bottom half of the first inning.
Other leading hitters for Oakland were Danny Flores with three hits and four runs scored. Reams had three hits, including a double, with three RBIs and three runs scored. Jamie Clark also had three hits with two doubles and four RBIs and Chris Shirko drove in two runs off of a double and he scored as well.
Winning pitcher Scott Wildeson struck out nine in four innings and reliever Matt Miller had four in the final three innings.
Oakland (12-3) will host Cumberland Wednesday night at Garrett College in a make-up game from June 14. The Orioles are 12-7 overall and 9-4 in Pen-MarWV.
